Announcement Information
The Announcement Information page is where you begin the process of completing a job announcement. To access this page, select a Request Number in Pending Recruitment status from the Dashboard, click the Vacancy Number link in the Vacancy Created section, and click Announcement. The Announcement Information section requires you to complete important information about the job announcement. The following elements are displayed:
- Announcement Number. The announcement number you assign in this field will appear on the USAJOBS announcement. Including the vacancy number within the announcement number is recommended when following an agency specified numbering convention. Note: We strongly encourage you to include the Vacancy Number as part of your Announcement Number. This will allow you and other support staff to quickly locate the vacancy if contacted by applicants or when contacting the USA Staffing Help Desk. For instructions, see Viewing an announcement.
- Generate. This link allows you to designate a USA Staffing-generated number if your agency does not have a specific numbering convention for announcements. This number consists of a descriptor of the Vacancy Type selected on the Staffing Approach page, the Vacancy Number, fiscal year, and the users initials who created the announcement (DEMP-10001524-14-DTT).
- Open Date. This is where you indicate the opening date of the announcement.
- Close Date. This is where you indicate the closing date of the announcement.
- Salary Type. This drop-down list allows you to select the appropriate pay schedule for the position. The default is Per Year. The options are:
- Bi-weekly
- Fee Basis
- Per Day
- Per Hour
- Per Month
- Per Year
- Piece Work
- School Year
- Student Stipend Paid
- Without Compensation
- Minimum Salary. This is where you enter the minimum salary for the location(s) and/or grade(s).
- Maximum Salary. This is where you enter the maximum salary for the location(s) and/or grade(s).
- Appointment Type. This drop-down list allows you to select the appropriate appointment type for the vacancy. The default is permanent. Multiple appointment types may be selected. The options in this drop-down list are:
- Detail
- ICTAP Only
- Intermittent
- Internships
- Permanent
- Presidential Management Fellows
- Recent Graduates
- Seasonal
- Summer
- Telework
- Temporary
- Temporary Promotion
- Term
- Not to Exceed. If you select Temporary, Term, or Temporary Promotion as the appointment type, this field displays and you can enter the not-to-exceed time date; for example, NTE 1 year or MM/DD/YYYY.
- Hiring Paths. This drop-down list allows you to indicate which applicants are eligible to apply. For more information, see: USA Staffing Crosswalk for USAJOBS Unique Hiring Paths. The options include:
- Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL). Federal employees who met the definition of a "surplus" or "displaced" employee.
- Custom Announcement. Will not appear on USAJOBS. This option cannot be combined with any other Hiring Path.
- Family of overseas employees. Family members of a federal employee or uniformed service member who is, or was working overseas.
- Federal employees - Competitive Service. Current or former Competitive Service federal employees.
- Federal employees - Excepted Service. Current Excepted Service federal employees.
- Individuals with disabilities.
- Internal to an agency - appears on USAJOBS.
- Internal to an agency - does not appear on USAJOBS. Internal to an agency. Announcements with this Hiring Path will only be listed within an agency-specific USAJOBS webpage for agencies who have one established with USAJOBS. This option cannot be combined with any other Hiring Path; otherwise, the announcement will not be listed on the USAJOBS site.
- Land & base management. Certain current or former term employees of a land or base management agency.
- Military spouses.
- National Guard & Reserves. Current members, those who want to join, or transitioning military members.
- Native Americans. Native Americans or Alaskan Natives with a tribal affiliation.
- Peace Corps & AmeriCorps Vista.
- Recent Graduates. Individuals who have graduated from an accredited educational institute or certificate program within the last 2 years or 6 years for Veterans.
- Senior executives. Those positions within the executive service.
- Special Authorities. Individuals eligible under a special authority not listed, but defined in the federal hiring regulations. Selecting this option requires Hiring Path Clarification Text on the Announcement Text page.
- Students. Current students enrolled in accredited educational institutions from high school to graduate level. Includes internships, pathways and other student programs.
- The Public. United States Citizens, nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.
- Veterans. Expanded Veteran Hiring Opportunity (EVHO). Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA), Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA), 30% Disabled.
- Work Schedule. This drop-down list allows you to select the appropriate work schedule for the position. Multiple Schedules may be selected. The options are:
- Full-Time
- Intermittent
- Job Sharing
- Part-Time
- Shift Work
- Part Time Hours. If you select Part-Time as the work schedule, this field displays and you can enter the number of hours in the part-time schedule per week.
- Set Promotion Potential. A check in this box allows you to select a promotion potential from the drop-down list.
- Linked JOA Control Number. This field allows you to link two released announcements together (i.e. one DEU & one Merit Promotion) when posting for the same position by adding in the corresponding USAJOBS Control Number. The USAJOBS control number is generated when the announcement is successfully released.
- Set Application Count. A check in this box will display a field to enter the number of applications to accept before automatically closing the announcement. The announcement will be removed from USAJOBS at midnight the day the set number of applications has been received. For instructions, see Setting a number of applications per announcement.
The Internal Contact section displays the contact information for the person who may be contacted by USA Staffing or USAJOBS support personnel for more information about this job announcement. This information is not published on the USAJOBS announcement. For instructions, see Editing an internal contact.
The Questions About This Job section displays the ability to select the phone number, email address, Help Desk URL (for a general contact only) and/or fax number to be published in the USAJOBS announcement. For instructions, see Editing an external contact.
The Agency Information section displays the ability to select the external customer name and address to be published on the USAJOBS announcement. For instructions, see Editing the announcement customer.
